UBA and Vibe Coding
I'm reading reddit threads where some experienced senior software engineers are very critical of vibe coding. And it makes all kinds of sense. They are in a battle for their "survival" as coders, and they are going to "shit" on vibe coding by default.
This response isn’t really a technical critique of vibe coding. It’s a threat response. When a person’s identity, income, and self-worth are bound to a skill, and that skill suddenly looks automatable, the nervous system does exactly what it evolved to do: it looks for an enemy. It's only natural. When your whole skill set is possibly going to get replaced by AI and you can literally see yourself as being made obsolete and without a job in the future, what automatically happens is that a fear-response happens and you go into opposition. AI becomes the "enemy".
The reality is that OpenAI's Codex 5.3 is a very competent software designer, and I hear Claude is currently coding 100% of its own improvements at Anthropic. There are software engineers who have not coded a single line of code for months by now.
All of this is heralding a jobless world. There are very few jobs AI can not automate. There are very few jobs it should not automate. When that happens we need UBA. Because how we control the AI becomes not a management from above problem, but a feedback from below problem.
The same people mocking vibe coding today would have mocked high-level languages decades ago. Or frameworks. Or compilers. Or cloud infrastructure. Every abstraction is first dismissed as unserious, then absorbed, then forgotten. This time feels different because it is. The abstraction layer crossed from tools to cognition.
That forces a choice we’ve never had to make at scale before. Either we let automation concentrate power, or we use it to erase leverage. UBA isn’t a nice idea for a future world. It’s the missing control surface for the one that’s already arriving. The alternative to UBA is dystopian, as it would entail some powerful shady persons controlling the AI from the top. In that world, you have no power at all. Perhaps you won't even have UBI to support you, and there would be nothing you could do about it. That world is the ultimate hunting ground for the people who would hold all the power. They could exploit you without mercy. That is the world the current "elite" is dreaming about, and that is why it can't be allowed to happen.
We need to, as I have said before, throw the Ring of Power into Mount Doom and destroy it. No one can wield it without becoming a force for evil. UBA is that rejection of power and I feel it is quite urgent to start talking about it. The Epstein files have already shown you that you are hunted and exploited by the rich and powerful. It is not unknown to you, you know the mechanisms exists. It is not a conspiracy theory. Imagine Epstein wielding the power of AI, in a world where you have been made entirely powerless.
Those are the stakes.
