UBA And Work
I was thinking what would happen if UBA was implemented, and you still wanted to work.
Let's take an example. A person has been working in their local shop for a lifetime. Suddenly they find that they don't have to work anymore, because UBA provides a monthly income which is more than sufficient to do whatever they want to do with their life. Travel, leisure, study, arts.. whatever. But what they really want to do is to continue to work, in their small shop because they love it.
And that is perfectly fine, they would be able to.
But their shop would automatically be owned by the entire world, in equal shares. If there are 9 billion people, their shop would now have 9 billion shares. And any earnings would be equally distributed to everyone.
So if they wanted to work still, they could. But they would be working for everyone and not only for themselves. They would be working for the global community, and not for personal benefit.
Ok so why work?
Because they might get a small extra payment from their own shop. A salary of sorts. Nothing much at all, but enough that it makes a small difference. Not enough to concentrate power, but enough that they might afford a little more than people who choose to not work.
At that point the question becomes.. do you really love your job or would you want it to be automated, thereby increasing your freedom? And that choice in itself, is a sort of freedom.
So under UBA people would work because they enjoy it, they value contribution, they like structure, they like being useful, they want a bit more comfort than baseline or they care about craft, community, or identity.
None of those are pathological motivations. What disappears is work as hostage negotiation.
If survival is guaranteed, what gives life structure? Nothing. Structure becomes a choice.
