On spiritual search and enlightenment
We find when we stop searching. Initially we may feel that something is wrong with ourself. We feel that something is amiss, that we could be better. Feel better. Love better. We seek to change ourselves, it is true. That is the starting point of the search. We are in conflict.
Then we search. We get lost in spiritual hocus pocus, like tarot cards, crystals and palm reading. We then think we have found it, but discover that we have not done anything at all of substance. We convince ourselves we love everything to the point of the absurd. We go around hugging trees for crying out loud.
We may find some nuggets along the way. Such as "letting go", non attachment. But it is not a given that we know what that actually means. So we convince ourselves that we are "enlightened" or "awake". But inside rages the same old storm, which is conflict.
Only when we let go of trying to control everything - our relationships, our climate, our destiny, our state of mind, even our enlightenment - only then do we discover what non-attachment truly means.
And then we find it.
