Free will vs Freedom.

One must distinguish between "Free will" and "Freedom". They are not the same. Belief in choice add existential weight to your life. When those choices are seen as pre-determined, whatever they may be, it adds a new lightness to your life.

Free will is a nightmare. Imagine every little choice you'd have to make, if you truly had free will. What direction does the rain fall now? How about now? Now? How should the colour pink look today from second to second?

Choices are not freedom. Free will, as conceived of by religion is not freedom.

God's plan is freedom. Which is an old-fashioned way to say determinism. The name does not matter much. They are the same.

We think we have choice. That belief can cause us much unnecessary stress. Believing in choice can cause choice paralysis. Much easier to just pick one and trust that it was the right one. More choice, traditionally, is thought of as more free will. Free will is considered freedom. But I do not think that is so. Freedom can only exist within a pre-determined structure. Such as the reality we live in.
