The Beam in thy own Eye
Some people are blind to their own ugliness, but are very keenly aware of the "ugly" in others. I on the other hand, am keenly aware of my own ugliness.
This allows me to see others, as they are. I think it is valuable, to see ones own darkness. To know it intimately.
In ones own eyes then, one does not perceive oneself as more righteous or good than anyone else. I would be wary of someone who think they are good. Even Jesus said, "Why do you call me good?"
The value in this self-awareness I believe to be immense. It enables a kind of vision that is unclouded by judgment or the need to elevate oneself above others. Instead, you can meet others where they are, without pretence or false moral superiority.
Acknowledging ones own "ugliness," is not an act of self-deprecation but rather a step toward true understanding and compassion. It allows for the acceptance of humanity in all its forms, and with it, a genuine connection to others and to yourself.
The darkness in us, is a teacher also. One, most people fear to confront. And because of that fear, they separate themselves from the raw humanity, cloaking themselves in false righteousness and superiority. But raw humanity, you are.
When you know what to look for, this polished falseness can be seen everywhere.
Usually in the "good" people, who scream the loudest and hate the fiercest.
