The Memory Fallacy of the Ego

We tend to define ourselves solely based upon memory.

If I did a thousand good things in the past, but do a bad thing today, I still think of myself as a good person.

If I did a thousand bad things in the past but do a good thing today, I still think of myself as a bad man.

But these are but memories.

When I do good I am good. When I do bad I am bad. That is looking at reality as it actually is.

The past is not a factor in it at all. Only what we do in the current moment is actually what we are, because we are a continous doing rather than a memory.

The ego, what people call "me" is but a memory.

It is never actually here at all. Only doing is actually here.

"You" as most people think of themselves exists only in the past and never in the present moment. In any moment, you are free to be something new - if you let go of the past.

This is also the reason why no one is straight, gay, bi or whatever else they defined themselves as.

People are only ever as straight or gay as they are right now in this very moment.

The "self" is not a static memory, but a dynamic doing.

The ego however, is often a static thing.
