The unplanned life

Most of my life, I have been drifting aimlessly through life. I have rarely wanted to go anywhere in particular, achieve anything particular, be anyone specific. Yet, life and the people I've met through life has supported me, and sometimes carried me when I felt weak. Other times I have carried people, who felt too weak to go on. By some miracle, my life has turned out to be a good one.

I look at a tree, how it grows, how it stretches. It is clearly under no obligation to grow precisely as it has done, it is completely free to grow however it feels is best. This tree, is perfectly in submission to Gods will. Yet it is also perfectly free.

I would argue that I and the tree is not so unlike. I think that perfect submission to God's will, is perfect freedom. Freedom from the past, freedom from the future. Just this moment, in which you are free to exist as you see fit.

The moment you begin to plan the future, the moment you regret the past you are in conflict. You are in that moment a doubting Thomas.

There's is a flow in the unplanned life, and that flow is both freedom and surrender.
