I sometimes try to imagine my spirit going out, and embracing another in a hug, like a parent embraces a child. I find that this visualization informs my interactions with that another, afterwards.

I am better able to act compassionate, kind and understanding. I think this might be what is meant with "my heart goes out to you", which we often simply say without doing the practical part of visualization.

This is also, I feel, a mystical practice as one does in a sense manipulate unseen energies. I wonder if this cannot also be subtly felt, by the other part.

You know how when you enter a room and you can immediately pick up on the energy in the room? Like that. If they can not sense the energetic embrace, they will sense it from me at the very least, in how I meet them.
