If one is afraid of God, try to keep in mind a few things..

No matter what you do, you still at some level love yourself.

You may not like what you have done or who you have become, but you still have a fundamental love for yourself, somewhere, within. The world may convince you that you are unworthy of love, but it is simply not true.

God knows you far better than you do, and could love you no less than you yourself love you. Would you judge yourself to eternal torment ? If you would not, then neither would he.

If you can forgive yourself, so can he. His love is unconditional.

How could it not be so ?

The interconnectedness of all things speaks to a fundamental unity, and so God is a "greater me". If I can love myself, then he (who is also me) can also love me. While I may be unconscious of what shapes my actions and my personality, he is aware. There is, as I see it, always a reason why we do as we do. The most horrible things, can be forgiven - as I see it. Jesus also said as much, I think ? One shouldn't view this as "permission to be a horrible cunt", but..

That higher power is fundamentally, of the same nature as I am. There is nothing within me, which isn't also within Him. If I can love myself, then He can love Himself. That "Himself" includes me. And you. And everything.

This, is the reason I think, that Gods love is unconditional. There is nothing that cannot be forgiven.

So try, if you can, to be kind towards yourself. Turn negative thought patterns into positive ones and practice compassion for yourself. You are worthy of it.

And finally, see that loving presence in everything around you. If one manages that, it becomes quite impossible to not yourself become a loving presence in the world.
