Asking in the Name
Every nerve signal in your body - hearing, tasting, feeling, seeing - travels as chemical and electrical pulses toward your brain, where it's continuously processed. When nothing out of the ordinary occurs, we experience this ongoing stream of input as a quiet "hum" of being. That hum is what we usually take to be “me”. If the hum ceased, so would that sense of "me" end.
But there is something else, something rarely noticed: the witness. What listens to the hum of life? When we try to locate this witness, we find nothing. It has no form, no position. It doesn’t exist in the usual sense, because it is the nothing that makes existence possible. That which “does not exist” gives rise to all that does. And they are one totality.
It’s a strange thing to realize that we are, essentially, “nothing.” That we don’t really exist at all. This life, it seems like it is the dream of the one who was never born, and who never dies. You. Me. Everyone.
The dream does not end, just because "I" end. What I call "I" just changes form. Right now, "I" exist in every living being, everywhere. Dreaming your life, as I dream mine. As someone else said once; "'I' is the name we all share". It's the only true name. When Jesus said to ask in his name, and you wonder what his name could truly be, perhaps keep this in mind. Once the name is truly understood to be "I", Jesus teachings makes every kind of sense, and you begin to see God everywhere you look.
Why don't I fear the future, despite all evidence that I should be fearful?
I trust myself.
And that trust is "asking in the name". Not a demand. Just the quiet expectation that it will all work out.
Which is exactly what pop-culture phenomena like Manifestation and the Law of Attraction is attempting to point at.
