Aham Brahmasmi

Before you knew that you were the world in its entirety, the world dominated you. Told you what to believe, and who to be. In the form of politicians and authorities of every kind from parents to religious teachers, it asserted its dominance over you, and you believed it.

After you know yourself to be the world, who is there left to bow to? You have become authority in yourself. You may listen to yourself, you may consider the points that are made, but never again will you bow and consider them greater than you. Maya's illusions have become transparent to you.

That may be the greatest benefit to awakening to the truth of consciousness as self. Freedom from external authority. This is not just a thought, it is something I feel also. When I watch our "leaders", I recognise within that I do not bow to them. They may carry on with their insanity, but their hold on me has vanished.

Like twilights fog flees before the morning sun.

Their stories sound hollow, their ideologies look like foolishness, the path they "lead" us down looks like lunacy. What they believe, I no longer believe. In a sense, I have stepped outside of history. Watching it from outside, while at the same time participating from within.
